The highlight for me was definitely Niko, who tied for second place in specials on Sunday at 10.5 years old. He was definitely tired in his finals run but I’m so proud of the old man. He had the highest scores of all my dogs!
We had a great time in Florida this weekend. We had a large enough entry of Beezers to split stakes! Sam came home with his second major and some points and now needs four more singles to finish his FC.

Fleura had an amazing year! 2023 is the year she will be bred to Ingvar, and they ended up very close to one another.
Dean also ended the year as #4 LGRA Breed & Niko was #15 Breed. We had a long week of camping in TN, starting with Beezer Bash on Tuesday, followed by the four days of Winter Challenge. It was overall a great weekend. Sam was Winner's Dog & Best Puppy at the Beezer Bash Specialty for his first major. In the ASFA trial, Evie was fourth place in Field Champions and Niko was second in Veterans. At Winter Challenge, Fleura was BOB every day, but ultimately pulled up a little lame for Best in Event. Overall, it was a great week and a blast to hang out with everyone.
Fleura ended the year #1 in LGRA, #4 in ASFA (after four trials), and #2 in AKC lure coursing! We had an impromptu playdate with local friends over at Katie's house, and we ended up with 17 Ibizans, 1 Afghan, 1 Pharaoh and 2 mutts all playing in the yard happily together. It was a lot of fun, with great company and happy dogs, and the added bonus was new stacked photos of Ponzi and Junior from the Art Litter in time for their 6 month half-birthday. Additionally, everyone got to meet the new addition at Acires, Sam, who is currently staying with Kayla & Ponzi. He's a sweetheart boy who will be a wonderful addition to the family.
In attendance at the party: Beezers:
This was an amazing event! It was so well put together and while we didn't end up with many Ibizans this time, we had an amazing Afghan entry of 15 of very likely the fastest Afghans in the United States. Dean won both meets and Niko actually pulled off a second place in LGRA, in addition to his High Scoring Veteran at age 8. Fleura had some awesome races and really had to earn her third place in LGRA - there were a couple races where she was defeated by a muzzle. She pulled a couple bad breaks to the outside in NOTRA, but still had some really brilliant moments in her second and third race. If she learns to stay on the rail, I think she could be a contender.
It was really great to meet some of the west coast Afghans - they are all extended family and some brilliant runners. I'm really proud of how my girl hung in there. I had a lot to be proud of this weekend! Fleura was BOB the first day and 3rd place (1 point behind the tied 1-2 run, one judge) the second, adding on 7 more LCX points. Niko was second place the first day, having tied with his much younger nephew and then won the coin toss, so he added another LCX point as well. Saturday wrapped up just before dark with a BIF between Fleura, the Pharaoh Hound, the Ibizan and the Saluki. All of them were really nice runners, and I was extra proud when Fleura was announced Best in Field. She received some very kind comments from her judge as well.
I had a wonderful time with my coursing community, and was really happy to have a new Afghan person come hang out, as well as a friend with a Deerhound. It's always great fun getting new people started in the sport, and I think everyone had a good time. We had a wonderful time in Limestone, TN, as usual. We all coordinated on entries and ended up with 22 entries in regular competition one of the days. Counting Singles, we had more Ibizans than there were Whippets! Everyone was enjoying themselves, and lending a hand as needed. We really have a wonderful group of local people and dogs. Overall, my dogs did well, but I could definitely tell that three days was probably too much for them at this time.
On Saturday, Niko was 4th in Specials, which is impressive at 7 years old (technically a veteran) and running with mostly a group of younger dogs. Aiden tied for 4th place in Open, but I forfeited him since there were no points available and I wanted to save him up for Monday. On Sunday, Fleura was second in Specials for three LCX points. Monday was the big day for me. Evie was second in Specials for three LCX points. The big winner was Aiden. He surprised us all and wound up first place in Open for a five point major! That gives him both his majors and leaves him needing only three singles. Due to Aiden's illness, he missed three years of coursing, and with so many young, green dogs, I thought that he would have to wait until he was in Veterans to try and finish his Field Champion, so it was a wonderful surprise for him to pull off a win like this. To say that I'm proud of him is an understatement. We had a wonderful time at the NLCC. We had a great Ibizan and Afghan entry, with lots of great running dogs. Niko was fourth in Specials on Saturday and got to run with his sister, Risa, for the first time and Fleura won Open both days. She was the high point Afghan and qualified to run as a NLCC finalist.
Fleura finished her Field Championship with a BOB for a 5 point major and a perfect score in the BOB run off. She also finished her Senior Courser this weekend and then went on to win Best in Field, running with a Greyhound, Ibizan, Basenji, Pharaoh Hound and Ridgeback. I'm super proud of this little girl!
Dean was also BOB on Saturday for 4 points toward his LCX, and Niko was third for a point. Evie was first in Specials for 5 points on Sunday, and Dean was second on for another 3 points for his LCX. Aiden had his first show since he was a puppy, earning WD for more points and RWD. Niko was also BOS and Select for more GCH points and a major, and has all his CH defeated toward his GCH now.
