Yesterday, Fleura earned her SGRC, and today marked her 16th LGRA meet undefeated in all races (which I find impressive, considering she’s always run with fast Afghans!).
In Beezerland, we decided to show up with 11 Beezers for racing, which I think is the biggest or one of the biggest meets I’ve run Beezers in. We may have had few close ones in 2020 in FL, but I would have to check. The Fly kids dominated again, which isn’t a huge surprise. He got to hang out and see three of his sons and one of his daughter from three litters race, which is really neat. Dean has passed on the racing torch to his half brothers, Fable and Junior, now that he’s into his veteran years, but he still made a great showing both days. Yesterday, he tied with Zest & Sol to add more toward his SGRC too (he’s close!) and today he was fourth to his daughter! Today, Ms. Hela gets to be awarded “Most Improved”, as she won her last two races and placed third for her first point! Prior to the second race today, she was turning herself around in the box and getting a very late start (although she didn’t quit!), but I think she/we figured out the solve for that today. She is a big fan of this game and I’m looking forward to lure coursing with her. Meanwhile, over in Sweden, Ori made everyone super proud by going BOB and BOB Junior for his first CAC. He received a really nice critique from the judge. Huge congrats to Nellie & Felix!! We had a great time this weekend in TN, doing some LGRA racing! We had 16 Beezers present, with 9 of them competing, so we had a little modified Bungalow between Katie, Rachel, Kayla and I. The weather was beautiful, and great for van camping (less so for poor Kayla, who may have frozen in her tent), and we had a nice time making s’mores.
Junior (Evie x Fly) won both days for a nice start for his GRC. His sister Ponzi was third both days for her first points as well. Dean (Farrah x Fly) was second place yesterday for points toward his SGRC and today Zest (Sol x Ferdinand) was second place and seems to have found her calling. Fly proudly hung out and watched his kids, young and old, take after his speed. Evie hung out and was disappointed her kids aren’t as mischievous as she is when racing. Farrah hung out and showed everyone she can still speed off when she feels like it by galloping around like a wild heathen at 14.5 years old. Sully (Evie x Fly) got a practice in and decided the lure is super great when it’s moving but when it stops he has more exciting things to discover. Hela (Angel x Dean) had some awesome practices and even broke from the box. I am hopeful she will be a terror when she’s old enough to run for real next month. Sam earned the title of worst dog I’ve started racing yesterday, not because he does anything wrong while running, but because he broke THREE muzzles. The bastard was managing to claw them off before he ever even left the box. I even taped his “thumbs” down to help keep him from grabbing them. Today, I modified a special muzzle just for him and I WON. He was a model racing dog today. Fleura was her usual amazing self and won in Afghans both days. She needs a half point for her SGRC now. Also, all of my dogs (and Scampi, who belongs to Sarah) proved themselves to have excellent recall when I stupidly left the gate to my pen not latched properly and they descended on the field one after the other. Six Beezers and an Afghan came carousing out for an adventure, but promptly returned to their house like polite citizens when called back. I can’t imagine what it looked like from the other end. Super proud of Ori and his family over in Sweden, as today he went BOB Junior (with Excellent rating) and then on to win Best in Show 1st Junior out of a class of 10. Many of the dogs he competed against were older than him. The hard work Nellie and Felix put into him really showed, as he showed like a little pro!
We had a great time in Florida this weekend. We had a large enough entry of Beezers to split stakes! Sam came home with his second major and some points and now needs four more singles to finish his FC.
The highlight for me was definitely Niko, who tied for second place in specials on Sunday at 10.5 years old. He was definitely tired in his finals run but I’m so proud of the old man. He had the highest scores of all my dogs! Evie came in season right before the NLCC, and Sarah ended up taking her to the Perry shows for me, where she was awarded BOW two days for her last two points to finish her championship! She's a Dual Champion at long last!
Meanwhile, I took Beetlejuice, Sam and Dean to the NLCC, where we had a great time. The big winner was definitely Beetle, but Dean did get second place in veterans one of the days for another point. On his second weekend out, Shocker blasted through his last few points and finished his Canadian Championship, as well as winning two puppy groups! Shocker is the youngest Ibizan to finish his Canadian Championship. So proud of his family for getting him out there and having fun!
Super proud of Shocker up in Canada, who debuted at six months old by going BOB over two specials for his first points and then went on to win a Group 4! The following day, he was BOB again, and went on to a Group 1 and a puppy Group 1. So proud!
Shocker is from the 2023 Neil Gaiman Litter. Sammy had a great debut lure coursing this weekend. He QCd yesterday with his buddy, Dean, on an 1100 yard course to boot, and then entered the trial. He ran great and ended up second place for his first point. Today, I told him this morning that the only way he could qualify for the NLCC in time with the extended deadline was to win BOB. He took it to heart and ran like a trooper, and also earned his first major in the process. So he finished the weekend with his first six points and a major and qualified just in time! He also ran in BIF for the first time, with this great Saluki, and he hung in there better than I expected with that unfortunate draw — there was no way that Saluki wouldn’t smoke him, but he didn’t give up.
Additionally, Dean walked away with three points toward his LCX this weekend, and Fleura earned five points toward her LCX2. Unfortunately, she had a flare up of an earlier injury in her last run and she’s benched for the next month. I’m glad Afghans have enough sense not to run themselves until they are well and truly broken the way Ibizans do. I saw Fleura stumble-hop weirdly with her rear (injury was to her knee) and my immediate instinct was to cringe because Beezers will basically run until their leg is dangling off, and it was only halfway through the course. Instead, she pulled up and stopped, located me, and trotted off the course directly to me. I was flabbergasted and very relieved I didn’t have to watch her run herself into real brokenness. Hela also had a puppy run yesterday and had a good time meeting lots of people. She’s decided she’s really into the lure coursing game and was losing her little brain watching the other dogs. I’m definitely looking forward to her getting started. Meanwhile, in Sweden, Ori had a great show day with a BOB puppy and honorary prize, and a puppy Group Two. Very proud of this little man! |
